According to SteamDB at the time of writing, Roller Champions currently has a 24-hour peak player count of just 66 players, with only 34 playing right now. Back in July 2022, just a month after the game released, rumors started circulating the internet that Ubisoft was going to shut down Roller Champions, and while the publisher refuted those claims, a shutdown must certainly be on the cards for Roller Champions soon. By the time Roller Champions did release, that original audience had lost interest long ago, and as a result, Roller Champions was met with no fanfare.ĭespite being a genuinely pretty solid game, Roller Champions struggled to capture a player-base in its first few weeks, and its lack of content struggled to maintain any players for longer than just a few days. However, Ubisoft would continue to delay Roller Champions over the next few years, pushing its slated 2021 release date to May 2022, and then finally to June 2022, when it eventually released. While it certainly wasn't a stand out of 2019's E3, it was a good addition to the line-up, and the game had plenty of fans already on board. ![]() ![]() This free-to-play model also worked well with the amount of content that Roller Champions was going to have, making it a much better deal for those on the fence. On top of that, Roller Champions' free-to-play model meant that the game would be highly accessible, which is perfect for gamers who aren't too keen on sports games but are willing to jump into one if it's free. Announced all the way back in 2019 during E3, Roller Champions was met with a solid amount of excitement during its debut, with its unique take on the sports game genre feeling like a breath of fresh air.
